If you read my previous post, then you probably already know that I am currently watching “She Was Pretty” for the fourth time, and I am loving every bit of it.
My favorite thing about rewatching my favorite dramas is learning new things or seeing the different events in the drama from a totally different perspective.
To get you up to speed in case you haven’t watched this drama, She Was Pretty is an office rom-com about Hye Jin who begs her friend to go in her place to meet her childhood friend with plans to dissuade him from ever meeting her again, but then she gets employed and it turns out he’s her boss.
For those who have been Korean drama fans for, give or take, the past 20 years, you’ve probably already noticed the abundance of female villains in Korean dramas.

That is not to say there aren’t actual female villains, but when this trope is played, replayed, and then overplayed, it can become rather tiring.
So, watching this drama and seeing the friendship of Ha Ri and Hye Jin is so heartwarming, and it absolutely makes me feel so fuzzy inside.
From the very beginning, it is very clear that both of them love each other a lot and are very dependent on each other.

One thing I really appreciated the most was also how their different characters complemented each other at different points in time.
Whether it was Ha Ri calling Hye Jin after a problematic dinner with her parents or Hye Jin calling Ha Ri after a very horrible day at work, these two girls were always on each other’s side, and it was so sweet to see.

They laugh together, cry together, hurt together, work together, and basically are each other’s backbones. Their numbers are even saved on each other’s phones as “Husband” and “Wife” — how cute is that??
And one thing that I loved all the more about their beautiful friendship was how they weren’t afraid to call each other out on their bullshit, but they did it all with kindness and love.
