SBS Announces New Historical K-Drama ‘Return to the Palace’ with Star-Studded Cast

The series will feature a notable cast including Yook Sung Jae, Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon – Actor Kim Young Kwang will also appear in a special cameo.

The drama is set in a fantasy world where eight ghosts harbour grudges against the King, and a shaman must confront them. Yook Sung Jae will play Yoon Gab, a palace officer who is also the shaman’s first love.

Meanwhile, Bona will play a shaman and the granddaughter of a renowned shaman. Her life changes drastically when she becomes entangled with an Imoogi – a mythical creature that failed to become a dragon. 

Kim Ji Hoon, on the other hand, will play King Lee Sung, a reformist monarch who wants to eliminate the ghosts to strengthen his nation. His character will investigate the mysteries surrounding these spirits and their connection to the palace.

Return to the Palace is directed by Yoon Sung Shik, known for Mr. Queen, Hwarang, and Oasis

It is also written by Yoon Soo Jung, who penned Sassy Go Go and 2013 historical drama starring Lee Dong Wook, Heaven’s Order

The 16-episode, 70-minute historical K-drama will air exclusively on SBS, starting January 6, 2025, and will be part of their Monday and Tuesday night timeslot.
