For many of us who love Chinese dramas, we started off with dubbed xianxia dramas on television – mine was Ashes of Love, which I loved and still rewatch now. 

And if you aren’t in the know, xianxia is a subgenre of fantasy Chinese dramas where the plot leans more into magical themes and Chinese mythology (think immortality, cultivation, powers, etcetera).

I’ve now listed some very interesting xianxia movies you might want to consider adding to your watchlist now. 

1. Once Upon A Time

This is one amazing xianxia movie you need to watch if you want a melodramatic romance that will keep you glued to your screen. 

4. Journey To The North

Chang Sheng, the God of War, and Yun Huang, imprisoned in Demon Hell, must survive the many conspiracies and demonic invasions. 

As they fight against each other, secrets hidden in the Demon Hell threaten the mortal world.

5. Double Faced Fox

In this xianxia movie, General Bai Yi investigates a malevolent fox spirit threatening a kingdom and his pursuit of truth leads to a tragic demise during a battle against demons.

6. The Love Of Immortal

Tian Yi, who wants to become immortal keeps trying and failing.

And when he releases the Snow Siren and loses his powers, he discovers a connection with her that spans past lives.

7. Monster Hospital

Scholar Jin Zhijian’s visit to the Demon Medical Center intertwines with a strategic plot involving a magic pill. 

Love, betrayal, and ancient powers unfold in this xianxia movie set in the Three Realms, and it’s the best choice if you want a thrilling Chinese xianxia movie to watch ASAP. 

8. Magic Lotus Lantern

Yang Jian and a mortal woman unite to reclaim the stolen Baolian Lantern and end up facing the Chaos Demon’s threat to the six realms.

9. The Queen

The nine-tailed queen of the fox tribe, Daji, undergoes a tumultuous journey from captivity to become the empress of the Shang Dynasty in this amazing movie about love, war, and chaos.
