Top 8 Super Underrated Fantasy Korean Dramas You Should Give A Chance

While some fantasy dramas steal the spotlight, there are hidden gems that deserve your attention and you’re going to absolutely appreciate them all.

And so, I’ve curated this list of some of the most underrated fantasy Korean dramas that are 100% worth watching and you’ll enjoy them.

They’re just as good as the popular ones out there and if you can, please give them a chance (and thank me later).

1. Mirror of the Witch (2016)

Mirror of the Witch

Set in the Joseon Dynasty, this drama follows the story of a cursed princess, Heo Yeon Woo, who is born with the ability to manipulate fire.

So, she struggles to lift the curse with the help of a young shaman and a royal bodyguard, but despite this intriguing plot and the stellar cast, it didn’t receive as much attention as it deserved, but it’s so good.

2. Arang and the Magistrate (2012)

Arang And The Magistrate

In this supernatural romance, a ghost named Arang tries to discover the truth behind her death with the help of a righteous magistrate.

Compared to other dramas of this genre, Arang and the Magistrate isn’t as popular and I genuinely feel that this drama needs to be watched as much as the other ones.

3. The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016-2017)

Legend of the Blue sea

This fantasy romance follows the love story between a mermaid named Shim Cheong and a genius conman, Heo Joon Jae, across different time periods.

While The Legend of the Blue Sea gained some popularity, it often flies under the radar compared to other fantasy dramas and that’s so surprising.

4. My Love from the Star (2013-2014)

My Love From the star

When an alien who has been living on Earth for centuries meets a top actress, their lives become entangled in unexpected ways and what comes after is the most beautiful romance.

Unfortunately, this drama is still severely underrated in many circles and I’ll recommend it to anyone who wants a beautiful blend of romance, fantasy, and comedy.

5. Bride of the Water God (2017)

Bride of habaek

Based on a popular webtoon, this fantasy drama follows the story of a young woman who is sacrificed to the Water God in exchange for rain, but they soon start developing feelings for each other.

Bride of the Water God didn’t receive as much recognition as other dramas during its airing, but it’s a hidden gem I absolutely relished and I know anyone would love it too.

6. Nine Time Travels (2013)

Nine Times travel

Park Sun Woo discovers a mysterious nine-tailed fox painting that allows him to travel back in time to change the course of events and save his loved ones, but altering the past comes with unforeseen consequences.

Even though this time travel Korean drama received critical acclaim, it’s still incredibly underrated compared to other dramas with the trope and that’s a crime.

7. Queen In-Hyun’s Man (2012)

Queen inhyuns man

A modern-day scholar, Kim Boong Do, finds himself transported back to the Joseon Dynasty, where he becomes entangled in political intrigue and romance with Queen In-hyun.

Of all the underrated fantasy Korean dramas in this post, this particular drama takes the cake because it’s so good in terms of cinematography, casting, and the plot but not a lot of people talk about it.

8. Splash Splash Love (2015)

Splash Splash Love

Dan Bi, a high school student facing academic pressure, gets transported back in time to the Joseon Dynasty during a rain shower.

Then, she meets she meets King Lee Do, who is struggling with his responsibilities as a ruler, and their unexpected bond leads to humorous and heartwarming moments.

This drama is also very much underrated and my guess is that its length does more harm than good, but it’s actually very interesting and I know you’ll enjoy it.
